What an engine rebuild actually means
An engine rebuild is not the same as a repair. A repair fixes the specific part that has failed; a rebuild takes the whole engine apart, inspects every component and reconditions or replaces anything that is worn, so the unit returns to you as close to new as the design allows. That matters because the failures we see, timing chains, wet belts, oil starvation and bearing damage, rarely affect just one part. By the time a symptom appears, the wear has usually spread through the engine.
Our rebuilds are carried out in house by time served engineers. The engine comes out, it is stripped on the bench, and every component is measured. The block is cleaned and inspected, the crankshaft is checked for wear and ovality, the cylinder head is pressure tested and skimmed where needed, and the oil system is flushed or rebuilt so no debris reaches the new components. Only then is the engine reassembled, run and road tested.
What our engine rebuilds include

- Cylinder head pressure testing, skimming and valve reconditioning
- OEM or genuine equivalent parts throughout, including bearings, gaskets and seals
- Oil pump, pick up, cooler and gallery cleaning or replacement
- Assembly, run up, oil pressure check at temperature and road test
- Written warranty and clear first service advice
Engines we rebuild
We focus on the engines that give the most trouble on UK roads. That includes Jaguar and Land Rover Ingenium diesels, Ford EcoBoost and EcoBlue wet belt engines, Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Vauxhall PureTech wet belt petrols, Mazda Skyactiv diesels, and the small turbo petrols in Nissan and Renault models. You can see the full list on our engine repair by vehicle page.
How much does an engine rebuild cost?
Engine rebuilds start at £2495.00. The price depends on the engine family, the parts required and the damage found during the strip down. A wet belt replacement caught early costs less than a full bottom end rebuild after oil starvation. You always get a written quote before any work starts, and we tell you honestly if a rebuild is not the right financial decision. See typical pricing on our prices page.
Rebuild or used engine?
A second hand engine of unknown history is a gamble. It may already be on its way to the same failure, and you pay the fitting labour twice when it goes wrong. A proper rebuild gives you a known engine with a warranty. Read the full comparison on our repair versus used engine page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an engine rebuild cost in the UK?
Our engine rebuilds start at £2495.00. The final price depends on the engine, the extent of the damage and which components can be reused. You receive a written quote before any work begins.
How long does an engine rebuild take?
Most rebuilds take between five and ten working days from collection, depending on parts availability and the damage found during the strip down.
Do you use OEM parts?
Yes. Every rebuild is fitted with OEM or genuine equivalent parts. The failures we repair are so often caused by inferior components that we will not risk them on a rebuilt engine.
Is the rebuild guaranteed?
Every rebuild carries a written warranty and is road tested before the vehicle is returned. We also give clear advice on the first service and the servicing that keeps the engine healthy.
